Help, in a 12 month lease and need to get out of it. Very scared to live in this house !?
My family moved from Ohio to Florida 60 days ago. We found a house to rent on line and rented it sight unseen because we lived 1200 miles away. We paid first and last months rent and security deposit before we moved. When we pulled into the driveway of this house we realized we were in a very unsafe neighborhood and we have been terrified ever since. We have tried to reason with the realtor company and they will not let us out of our 12 month lease. We are afraid for our lives. We have heard gunshots and have had police four doors down from us for a shooting. Someone has cut our fence in an attempt, in our belief, to steal our dogs, we have three little peek a poos. Also, besides being so scared there are other things that we feel we were mislead on in this house. We have a brand new washer, dryer and chest freezer outside in the rain and so forth because the realtors showed a picture of a shed and told us there was electric and washer dryer hook ups in it. They lied. The realtor that we were talking to did tell us that, but the listing realtor said that isn’t her problem and she is not the one that misled us. The air conditioner and refrigerator were both in not working order and took them over a month to get repaired. Now we are trying to buy a house and our offer was accepted on the house we found and just waiting for the closing date to be settled which could be in two weeks. In the meantime our rent is due tomorrow and remember we paid last months rent before we moved in. Should we pay our rent ? How much trouble are we going to be in for breaking our lease by moving out early ?
I greatly appreciate the answers I have received so far. I would like to add a few details. We are not trying to screw anyone over here. We made a few major mistakes. The biggest was moving in here without investigating the area. In my defense, NAIVE. We listened to the realtor and shouldn’t have taken her word for it. The reason we are looking to buy a home is because to rent a house in a nice neighborhood you are going to pay at least 2k a month. We can own our own home in a nice area for half that. We are not rich and moved here because my husband was losing his job and had a decent offer for another with a little better pay and health insurance. I will pay the rent because yes that is the right thing to do. My biggest question now is doesn’t anybody have a heart ? Our whole family is scared and all anyone is worried about is the poor landlord.
There are 3 issues here. You feeling safe, the landlord not providing what was promised and you buying a house.
First the safe issue. This is NOT!!! a reason that you can cancel the lease. You SHOULD HAVE researched the area and even if you lived 1200 miles away, you could have researched the area via the internet, police reports, etc. This was YOUR FAULT. With that being said, if you truly fear for your safety, then move and worry about what the landlord will do. Your safety doesn’t have a price. However, if this goes to court, you will NOT win on this issue.
If you are getting ready to settle on a house, I have the feeling that you actually started looking as soon as you moved in to the rental. This doesn’t make your case look good. I would have to assume that you want to buy a house and are now looking for grounds to break your lease.
It appears that you are going to break your lease no matter what. Should you pay the rent? Yes because you owe it. But I sure you will not.
Trouble? They can sue you for all the rent until they rerent the place.
************EDIT***************
What you have written under the additional information is of NO concern to this situation. Bottom line, you have a lease and a legal responsiblity to fulfill it.
you moved to the area without doing YOUR OWN research which would be very easy. At the very least, you could have used google earth and had a birds eye view of the street and the whole area.
I need some helpful hints on how to do well when answering questions on an unseen text?
I have a test coming up soon and I will have to be answering questions about a text that we get during the exam. The topic is "equality". I need some HINTS so I can put them in my notes and revise over them.
I am going to take a guess that the subject you are studying is English LIterature, Sociology or History. Whenever I had to revise for essay exams and I actually knew the topic/theme beforehand I would write my essay before the exam and just regurgitate most of it to fit with the question. Ask yourself, what is equality? who defines quality? what does it mean to have an equal society. The key in any essay is to make your point and then back it up with an example supported by the text. The difficulty you will have is finding the piece of text to support your point – under exam conditions this is always tough but it should be made easier by the fact that you know what you are going to say.
Can an entity or unseen force cause my fire alarm to spontaneously go off?
I wasn’t cooking and it wasn’t the batteries either, it was kind of spooky.
cheap chinese crap.
Why are Americans so Violent Paranoid?
It seems that since before the inception of the republic of the United States of America, it has been filled mainly with those whom are both paranoid and prone to violence as a result. When you look at how the world views the U.S.A, one can attribute a great deal of the hatred towards it to actions caused by the violent paranoia the U.S.A displays.
An example of internal violent paranoia (ie. paranoia existing inside the U.S.A) is the gun culture. No country on the planet has more peace time gun related deaths than the U.S.A. and supporters of the gun culture cling to a flimsy line in the constitution, claiming they must hold on to their guns for dear life in case the king of England attempts to reclaim the U.S.A, or they must use violent force on their government. The very idea that the people of the United States would need to use guns against their government is a great example of Violent Paranoia in of itself.
The myriad of conspiracy theorists who live in the U.S.A is another great example of internal paranoia; and they exist in a number unseen by any other developed western country. For other countries, conspiracy theorists are on the fringes of society, few and far between, regularly ridiculed. However in the United States there are so many conspiracy theorists with their different paranoid ideas about how the government or the world is out to get them next, that they’re able to form friendship groups, meet regularly and "try to discover the truth". lol
Externally, the Cold War of the 80’s is a great example of violent paranoia displayed by the United States. It’s a display that is echoed through-out history by the U.S.A whenever another country develops weapons of equal or greater power than your own. Lets take a more modern example in Iraq & Iran. According to official public claims by those in charge, the U.S.A went into Iraq looking for "Weapons of Mass Destruction" simply because Sadam didn’t want to have to submit his country to the ever watchful eye of the UN and because of their nuclear power program. Of course no "weapons of mass destruction" where ever found, showing just how paranoid the U.S.A really is. In Iran, the U.S.A is preparing to attack there as well, again over their nuclear power program and the irrational fear that because a country is developing civil nuclear power, that they may be developing nuclear weapons, and on the off chance might use those fictional nuclear weapons against the U.S.A.
Even the "terrorist" events that occurred on September 11, 2001 were in part caused by the violent paranoia of the U.S.A. In reality the "terrorist" attack inside the United States was a retaliation to over a decade of U.S lead violence on civilians through-out the middle east. I don’t know about you, but if another country kept bombing civilian houses, I’d inspire to kill them too. This decade of U.S lead violence was again the result of more irrational fears on the behalf of the United States.
Even the amount of money, time and effort which goes into stockpiling and developing weapons in the United States is an example of their violent paranoia. It is so much so that a great deal of the U.S.A economy rests on the need for continued war.
So, with all of those examples in mind, just why is the United States so paranoid? No other western country is paranoid in the same way, and as a result none of them have the same image problems as the united states do. Is it something in the water, or did England just dump all the fruit cakes in the U.S.A during colonisation?
This isn’t supposed to be a rant. I apologise for the long winded nature of the question, the bulk of which is made up of examples. If you don’t need examples you can just read the first and last paragraphs.
This is a genuine question, as I would like to understand what it is specifically about those who live in the United States of America that makes them behave in this way…
Kro, after you stopped talking about how the English treated the united states, your points started to demonstrate the violent paranoia displayed by the United States even further.
America was founded through colonization, a process that aims to conquer inhabitants and acquire cheap labor and resources for the purpose of financial gain. The idea that America was founded for religious freedom is absolutely crazy. If religious freedom was the true reason, why was an entire race of people, Native Americans, slaughtered and pushed off their land? Early explorers are known for cutting off Native American’s hands who did not bring them back an ample amount of gold. And Eastern America was by no means a gold mining area. America gained its position over England and Europe through the trade cotton African slaves planted and harvested. But not just America is guilty. Western European countries have colonized and destroyed both Africa and India.
Western Civilization period is violent and everybody should paranoid. If you came to power and rule by force, your demise will probably come in the same fashion.
Why can’t the religious see that the reasoning in this statement is flawed?
"Faith is the "assurance of things hoped for and the evidence of things unseen"."
THE REASONING USED IN THIS STATEMENT IS NO DIFFERENT THAN WHAT A PIMP USES TO TAME HOZ.
Hope is the knife at your back and faith the hand that wields it.
Hebrews 11:1: "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for; the evidence of things unseen." The substance?
of things hoped for-substance=what underlies things hoped for. If you say you have no faith or you say faith has no substance; are you not saying you never hope for anything you have yet to see? How sad.
Question: If you say that faith has no substance; are you not saying that you have never hoped for anything that you have yet to see??
The word translated substance is the greek word (hupostasis) I believe. It means "essence" or properly translated, substance. Faith is a real thing, it is a noun. Faith is the gift of God that enables true belief. Faith is not hope, but faith gives hope. Faith is not "believing", but faith allows belief. When we are granted the faith of Christ, by God, we then have hope!
Are there any old cathedrals in London with underground vaults, chambers, crypts?
I’m writing a novel set int he 19th Century. It is fictional crime, based around the troubled life of a private detective, a reluctant civil war officer, a beautiful woman thief, and an evil and devious mastermind. My detective is really in tune with criminal psychology so I want this story to have extraordinary unseen before setting. I hope I’ve described enough for you to make suggestions.
All the Cathedrals will have Crypts, including St. Pauls and Westminster Abbey, but if you want something a little more arcane, try Southwark (pronouced suthark) Cathedral, unless youwant something famous, but somtimes going for the less obvious has advantages, less people will know if you get it wrong.
Plus I have just looked at the site and it had building work done in the 1890s which from a plot point of view can have attractions. Molten lead for the roofing work, molten tar bubbling away for underground work finding unknown parts of the building ???

The London Underground (Subway) had been started, plus most of the theatres have underground rooms, storage, passageways.
Also don’t forget the ‘London Particular’ this was dense fog called Smog (smoke and Fog) that often enveloped ‘the Smoke’ another nickname for London. From Autumn (Fall) through to late Spring there would often be thick smog so dense you could not see much above twenty feet in day light and a lot less at night. It was caused by all the smoke belching out from the chimneys of houses and factories.
Great cover for deadly deeds, Jack the Ripper and so on.

How do I make myself unseen when I’m on facebook? I don’t want friends to know when I’m on.?
I think I’ve made myself unseen and, bam, I get an instant message – usually from someone I don’t want to talk to!
