Skyrim – Mzulft Puzzle (Reflecting lights). How do you solve it?

Posted on December 20th, 2011 by admin in unseen line | 6 Comments »

This is the "Revealing the Unseen" quest that is found by following the quest line for the College of Winterhold. I’m completely stuck on this puzzle that has the focus crystal with the light beams coming up. I assumed that you needed to line the light up with the circling plates and occasionally use fire or ice to change the angle of the light beams, but I just can’t seem to get them lined up. I’ve been at this for a long time now. Help would be appreciated.

use the buttons to put the plates.
the right most button should make it so that the plate is at the 1 o’ clock position. (assuming you are standing at the buttons facing the crystal)
the middle button should make it so the plate is at the 11 O’ clock position.
and the final left most button should make it so the plate is at the 3 o clock position.
after that use fire or frost destruction spells to make the light line up with the plates.

Dude i think he has the spells. I’m pretty sure he is referring to when he uses them nothing happens. I too am stuck here as well. I use fire or ice on the crystal and nothing happens. They don’t expand or contract. *EDIT* MAKE SURE YOU SAVE BEFORE YOU GET TO THIS PUZZLE. If you shoot them with ice and nothing happens it’s a glitch. I re loaded it and it worked.

I restarted twice, the first being close to where the occulory room is, and the second time I restarted at the beginning of the ruins(or whatever). The second round I didn’t rush through, didn’t play with the buttons to move the rings, anything. I let it run through the dialogue and thenwent down and hit the lens with frostbite. Worked perfect :) ** this quest is buggy, so a general reminder: REMEMBER TO SAVE OFTEN!!! You’ll end up screwing yourself over. Good luck
