How come some atheists are Satanists , doesn’t that contradict with their disbelief in the unseen?
I thought you have to be a follower of an Abrahamic religions to believe in Satan and angels but to my surprise I discovered that some atheists are satanists , how can that be ?
No.
First of all, atheist just means that the person doesn’t believe in the existence of gods. I can guarantee you that Satanists do not view Satan in the same way Christians do. Secondly in the atheistic versions of Satanism Satan is viewed as more psychological; that is the “Psychologic” viewpoint centers around Satan as being the primordial side of the human psyche which the majority of humanity seeks to control and eliminate, instead of accepting and utilizing. The Freudian id, the Jungian shadow, the “animal within” — these are perhaps the best parallels to the ‘Satanic self’ which the Psychological view of Modern Satanism desires to seek out and liberate.

Atheism is a lack of belief in gods, though an individual atheist might believe in pixies, leprechauns, or Qzxidtymyl. Just not gods.

doesn’t that contradict with their disbelief in the unseen?
Firstly, it’s not a disbelief in the unseen. It’s a disbelief in SPECIFICALLY AND ONLY religion.
Secondly, if they are satanists then they are not atheists. Simple as that, because being satanists they believe in a religion.

Did you hear this from atheists themselves, or from the Bible nuts who claim atheists are Satan worshippers?

The Satanists don’t believe in Satan as an actual deity or god-like figure, but more as a metaphor for hedonism, lust, sex, pleasure, carnal desires, and that sort of thing. They don’t believe in an afterlife or prayer or anything.

All atheists are Satanists…. if you aren’t with God, then you are with Satan as far as I see it

Atheists do not believe in ANY imaginary supernatural beings. So, if you are an atheist, then you cannot, by definition, be a satanist as both god and satan are imaginary supernatural beings.

I’m not religious but I believe in balance. Good evil, black white, life death etc. I don’t understand how someone can be a satanist but not believe in a god. To worship a higher power, be it good or bad, you have to acknowledge the opposite one exists. Some people who claim to be satanists tend to be mentally unstable (seriously) or else loking for attention. I like metal music, the amount of idiots I’ve met who claim to worship satan just because songs sing about the darker side of life! I’m not religious at all but I do believe in the afterlife, angels, demons & spirits though.

i assume you are talking about me. you should do more research on satanism, it is not the belief that satan is a being, but rather the belief that you can surrender to your carnal desires.they also have the opinion that the weak and stupid should not be allowed to hinder and cling to the strong and intelligent.

LaVeyan satanism is totally atheistic. it’s a philosophy, not a religion. They just use the word "Satan" to symbolise one who is ultimately centered in here and now, present life and one’s desires – or something like that, I admit I’m not an expert.
They don’t believe in the guy with horns.
Do a google search on LaVey or read the Wikipedia article on him and you’ll understand.
It’s totally different that nutter devil worshippers who hang around graveyards.

You’re viewing Satanism as a literal figure. This is not the case, rather a symbolic representation of exploiting primal feelings that involve pleasure and complete freedom from the mundane.

LaVeyan Satanists (who are atheists) don’t view Satan as a god, but as an ideal on which to assemble behind.
You are correct, Satan is an Abrahamic construction; Satanism is an offshoot of this. (See how many thumbs down I get for saying this lol ^^)

LaVeyan Satanism is a religion founded in 1966 by Anton Szandor LaVey. Its teachings are based on individualism, self-indulgence, and "eye for an eye" morality. Unlike Theistic Satanists, LaVeyan Satanists are atheists, agnostics, and Deists who regard Satan as a symbol of man’s inherent nature. According to religioustolerance.org, LaVeyan Satanism is a "small religious group that is unrelated to any other faith, and whose members feel free to satisfy their urges responsibly, exhibit kindness to their friends, and attack their enemies". Its beliefs were first detailed in The Satanic Bible and it is overseen by the Church of Satan.
In other words, they see Satan as a symbol, not as a real deity, so it doesn’t clash with atheism.

While there are a few weirdos who worship the Bible’s arch villain character, most satanists do not actually believe Satan is real. The idea "Satan" is used as a metaphor.
